The Love of My Life
I have seen my baby, and I am completely in love.
I just came back from my sonogram this morning, one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We saw Baby Funk! We heard the heartbeat first, and it's thumping steadily at a healthy 167 beats per minute. Then we saw the baby, and words can't even express the joy I felt at seeing my son or daughter for the first time. I couldn't help but cry as I watched my baby on the monitor.
(Since I won't know the sex for another 6-8 weeks, I'll start referring to little he-tus or she-tus as Pumpkin, which is what I call him/her/it in my head.) Pumpkin is pretty active for a teeny 5 centimeters. When we peeked in, he (ok, I'll tell you now, I have a strong feeling that it's a boy) was moving around doing what looked like sit-ups. We got to see his little hands and feet, and among our new collection of six sonogram photos, my very favorite is the one where he looks like he's waving to me.
I'm completely overwhelmed and unbelievably happy right now. I feel like this is all so much more real than it was even just yesterday. I'm not even resentful of the pain I felt as I struggled to hold an over-filled bladder for an hour to do the sono!
Reality does beckon, though... I have a day full of meetings and other adult things. But first, another few minutes to look at these photos again and daydream.
