I guess I can add to my list of crazy birthday week goings-on the blessed birth of Tomkitten!

Isn't that crazy? I watched the pregnancy through the eyes of People and Us Weekly with a train wreck sense of fascination, and it never dawned on me that the kid would be born near my birthday. I just can't wait for them to break up to finally hear poor Katie Holmes disclose that Tom Cruise paid her to have this baby.

(On the way home from my in-laws' in Baltimore this past Sunday, I passed the best piece of spray paint graffiti I've ever seen: scrawled on the side of a stop light, it simply said, "meow." I should have taken it as a sign of Tomkitten's impending birth.)

My birthday was yesterday and it was such a fun, happy day, filled with balloons and flowers and cake and goofing off. I heard from so many of my friends and, though I wasn't initially excited about the day (not that I was dreading it, I just wasn't particularly enthused about it), it turned out to be more fun than I expected, and I made a realization: I love my birthday! National, personal, or Hollywood crisis aside, it's a whole lot of fun to have people celebrate you.

And now I have lots of fun birthday shopping ahead of me! I got money from my family, and recently I've accumulated all sorts of free coupons for my birthday from DSW and Aveda and Loehmann's. I also got a spa gift certificate to Aveda, so I'm looking forward to getting a facial and having an expert take care of my skin, which has been breaking out like a 14-year-old's since I became pregnant.

Nausea's back slightly, so I'm off to find some ginger ale and maybe even get my work day started.
