I Heart Cake
Cake, cake, cake, cake... I never met a cake I didn't like.

I had the second of my three cooking classes last night, cake basics, and it was unbelievably fun. It wasn't even a full class -- there were only about 12 of us -- and each group of three had their own kitchen assistant, so we got lots of hands-on experience (and no pesky worrying about measuring ingredients or cleaning up bowls; also, no licking the bowl, since it was a communal effort, a rule I had to try consciously to observe).

We made four cake varieties: double chocolate, buttermilk cupcakes with chocolate ganache, sunshine cake with citrus buttercream frosting, and my very favorite, coconut cake with coconut icing. I was totally in my element as we mixed and poured, and was in heaven in this big professional kitchen with lots of warm baking smells enveloping us. As the cakes came out of the oven and cooled, we cut them into 4-inch rounds to decorate, and there were plenty of scraps to snack on. I came home with my own 4-inch coconut cake that I am completely psyched to wolf down tonight in front of the TV. (If the cable is working, that is. We got home yesterday after work to discover that our cable had mysteriously been cut. We were assured it would be fixed by the time we got home tonight. If I don't have cable and internet access this weekend, I will cry.)

In weightier issues (heh heh), my body mass continues to, um, amass. Yesterday the scale delighted in letting me know that I am a full 10 pounds heavier than before I became pregnant. (Joe asked, "And how much does the baby weigh now?" "A few ounces," I told him. He replied, "Hmmm, there seems to be some sort of discrepancy there.")

Pee break. Have a happy weekend.
