Mommy Saves the Day
My mom is both fascinated and (I think) horrified by the sheer array of stuff for sale for both expecting women and their resulting babies. And rightly so. Why clean your kid's bum off with a wet washcloth, when you can pull a hypo-allergenic, unscented, double-thick disposable wipe all nice and warm from the wipes warmer? ($21.99 at babiesrus.com, and yes, I want one.)

This shit's expensive and it ain't lost on her. I was fully prepared to eat the cost of baby furniture, expensive diaper bag, and lots of other stuff, until one day this week, she offered to pay for some of the baby's furniture. Well, yee-haw!! It now looks like baby will not have to sleep in a shoe box and be changed on a milk crate.

I sent my mom a few links to online maternity stores I like. I told her I hadn't really bought anything from them(a $79 tank top is a little out of my league), but that I liked to look. I did say, however, that diaper bags are all designer -- and pricy -- these days. She wrote back, "Some really nice clothes. Can't believe the diaper bags. What kind are you thinking of getting?" I haven't really picked one out yet, but I'm looking. Before I had a chance to write her back, though, this message from her popped up: "Do you want Mommy to buy you one?" Well, YES. YES I DO. This is the part of motherhood that I love, that I want to hold on to forever. The one where Mommy buys you stuff. Is there a better part of life? If there is, I can't think of what it might be.
