Further Proof That I Lack Maternal Instincts
I was sure it was a boy. Absolutely, positively certain that Pumpkin was a he-tus. But I'm having a DAUGHTER!! It's a girl! Mothers always know... except this mother, who has not a clue, evidently.

The ultrasound went great. The sonographer was really methodical and careful, taking measurements of the heart (all ventricles are there and look good), lungs, brain, spine, and lots of other things that I couldn't identify. But hey, as long as he could, I felt good about it. He ruled out several major defects, including Down's and spina bifida, which was reassuring. And then after about 10 minutes of prodding me, he asked if we really wanted to know what it was. When we practically screamed "YES!" he said, completely certain of himself, "It's a girl," and I started crying. I would have been happy either way, but it's no secret that I wanted a girl first. It's really amazing to think about and so hard to believe. My litte girl! My baby girl!

And my baby Pumpkin girl is coming sooner than we thought (well, theoretically). My due date has been pushed up from 10/22 to 10/19. Dr. DiMattina was dating it from the date of my embryo transfer, but my OB's office says the date of egg retrieval (and thus, the actual date of conception) is more accurate. So I'm down to 141 days, and I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow.

Pink, pink, pink, pink...
