It's 99 Day!!
99 days until my due date, to be exact. Theoretically, of course -- Pumpkin's in charge here, and she could be planning to stay in there for another 115 days for all I know.
99 Day is a concept I borrowed from my 6th grade French teacher, Miss Bennett, who celebrated 99 Day a few months before her wedding by bringing in cookies for the class. I can't give you all cookies over the internet, but if you stop by my rat's nest of an office, I'm happy to share my Pepperidge Farms Nantucket chocolate chip cookies with you. Only one, though -- they're only 8 to a bag. Other things I remember from Miss Bennett (who later became Mrs. Troth) are that putting your hair up in a bun on top of your head every day when you're 23 makes you look prematurely old, that you can kill two birds with one stone by memorizing bible verses in French (if only Jean 3:16 would be of some use to me these days), and that she thought our principal, Lester Balcolm (called Lester Polyester by my classmates and me, and then later Lester the Molester when we were older) was a "horny toad" after some scandal erupted that year when it was alleged that she taught the 7th and 8th grade girls that masturbation (specifically, "putting your finger up yourself," according to Jenny Fitzpatrick) was ok and everyone was outraged.
